Progress Trumps Perfection

All my life I've heard you have to change your priorities to change and it took me till about 20 to understand that in order to change your priorities, you have to change your whole structure of your day and your life. People made it sound easy but it's not that easy.

Something I did was I had a therapist and they told me in order to change you have to be pretty detailed about what that looks like. And based off that, you're going to set standards and non negotiables that are going to dictate who you are.

Because at the end of the day, what you allow yourself to think becomes your habits, and those inevitably become who you are. So for me, I just envision myself in the future.

“What does she look like?”

“How does she hold herself?”

“And what do I need to do today to make sure that becomes true?”

Every day is another opportunity. Every decision is another opportunity to get closer to being that version of myself.

That doesn't mean every single day I do it well, but I damn sure keep trying. I would rather die trying than never try at all. The only way to fail is to never give it a try, because now you're automatically a failure.

Progress always trumps perfection. If you want to be successful, just aim for progress. No one's keeping tabs on whether or not you're failing every single day.
